Taylor was easily distracted. Sometimes she would use the currycomb and then forget to use the brush. Or she would just use the brush without the curry. Or she would notice a fly buzzing around and chase it off, forgetting all about grooming.

Then there was Kara. She brushed Ladybug a few times, but then she started playing with her shaggy mane. Soon she’d dropped her tools entirely and was running her hands through Ladybug’s mane.

“Can I braid her mane?” she asked. “She’d look really cute that way!”

Emily bit her lip. She wished her friends had listened to her more this week. If they had, they might know more about ponies now.

“Don’t be silly,” she told Kara with a little frown. “Ponies don’t like their manes braided.”

Kara looked surprised. “Oh,” she said. “Sorry.”

“No, don’t be sorry, dear,” Ms. Sullivan said. “Actually, it’s quite common to braid a pony’s mane. Ladybug gets hers braided whenever she’s in a show.”

Emily felt stupid. “Oh,” she said softly. “I guess I never read about that in any of my horse books.”

Ms. Sullivan smiled at her. “Don’t fret, Emily,” she said. “Just keep reading and you’ll keep learning. After all, nobody knows everything there is to know about ponies.”

“Not even you?” Taylor asked.

Ms. Sullivan laughed. So did Emily’s parents.

“Nope,” Ms. Sullivan told Taylor with a smile that made her eyes crinkle even more. “Not even me.”

That made Emily feel better. So what if she didn’t know everything about ponies? The important thing was, she was crazy about Ladybug. She couldn’t wait to ride her!
